Flashbulb guide

How do I turn my notes into flashcards?

Turn each fact in your notes into one question with one clear answer. To do it quickly, paste your typed notes, photograph handwritten pages or record the lecture in Flashbulb: it writes question, term and fill-the-gap cards from your own words, shows the line each card came from, and lets you keep, edit or drop every card.

Three ways in

  1. Typed notes. In Flashbulb, tap Make › Paste or type and paste a page of notes (Google Docs, Notion, Notes, a syllabus). Long notes are split at paragraph breaks.
  2. Handwritten or printed pages. Make › Scan pages photographs several pages in a row. The text is read on your device; fix any misread word on the Check the text screen before making cards.
  3. A lecture. Make › Record a lecture (ask before recording a class). It's transcribed on your iPhone, turned into study notes, and the notes into cards.

What makes a good flashcard

Checking AI-made cards

Flashbulb shows the AI-made cards one at a time: swipe right to keep, left to drop, or tap to edit. Each card shows "From your notes", the line it was made from, so checking takes a second. A second AI pass already drops cards that aren't in your notes, have more than one answer or give the answer away. How accurate the cards are.

What it costs

Making cards is free: the AI writer does 30 pages in your first month, then 10 a month (a page is each started 3,000 characters, about one typed page), and after that the app makes simpler cards on your device. Flashbulb Plus raises the AI pages to 300 a month.

Questions

How many flashcards should one page of notes make?

Usually 8 to 15. A dense lecture page can make more; a page of examples makes fewer. More cards isn't better: keep the ones your exam will ask about.

Can I make flashcards from a PDF or slides?

Yes. In Flashbulb, use Make › PDF, slides, photos. Slides saved as PDF work, and photos of slides do too.

Do I have to type anything?

No. Photograph the page or record the lecture. You only type if you want to fix a misread word or edit a card.
