Flashbulb guide

Can I move my Anki or Quizlet decks to iPhone and keep my progress?

Yes for Anki: export the deck as a .apkg file and open it with Flashbulb; cards, cloze and reversed notes and your review history come across. Quizlet sets come across as cards (copy the export text and paste it), but Quizlet doesn't export progress, so they start fresh. CSV files work too.

Anki (.apkg)

  1. In Anki on a computer: File › Export, choose Anki Deck Package (.apkg), include scheduling information, and tick Support older Anki versions.
  2. Send the file to your iPhone (AirDrop, Files, email) and open it with Flashbulb, or use Make › Bring decks from Anki or a CSV.
  3. Basic, reversed and cloze notes become cards. Your review history is replayed through the FSRS scheduler, so cards you know well stay out of the way.

Why the tick box: Anki 2.1.50 and later compress exports in a newer format by default. Flashbulb recognises it and tells you to export again with the box ticked. Images and audio inside Anki decks aren't imported yet; card text is.

Quizlet

  1. On quizlet.com, open the set, choose Export from the set's menu, and copy the text (term and definition separated by a tab).
  2. In Flashbulb: Make › Bring decks from Anki or a CSV, or Make › Paste or type. Tables separated by tabs, semicolons, commas, " - " or " = " are recognised.
  3. Quizlet doesn't export your progress, so imported cards start as new. An exam date on the course spreads them over the days you have.

CSV and spreadsheets

Two columns (front, back) in a .csv file, with or without a header row; quoted cells with commas inside are fine. Open the file with Flashbulb or paste the cells.

Questions

Does importing keep my Anki review history?

Yes. Review history in a .apkg export is replayed through the FSRS scheduler; without history, the next review is estimated from Anki's last interval.

Why does my Anki file say it's a newer format?

Anki 2.1.50+ compresses exports with a newer format by default. Export again with 'Support older Anki versions' ticked.

Can I import from Quizlet directly?

Not by link. Export the set as text on quizlet.com and paste it into Flashbulb.
